Good evening gang members!!!!!
On the surface level, we are all aware that our ability to breathe is directly tied to our ability to live. Without our breath, we would cease to be alive within ten minutes. Without our breath, our muscles and cells and organs would stop receiving the oxygen that they need to function and keep us moving forward.
It’s unarguable that your breath is important. When was the last time that you really thought about your own breath? Noticed the way you take in air, how full the inhale feels, if you wheeze when you inhale, etc. Can you even remember?
If this isn’t a question that you can answer, I hate to tell you this but you are likely unconsciously mouth breathing during the day.
I can not impress this upon you enough - no amount of mouth breathing is good for us. Over time it weakens our airways and lungs, causes our oxygen and carbon dioxide levels to be unbalanced, makes us fatigue faster and can even impact our brain performance. Some studies even link our breathing habits to alzheimer’s and dementia.
Does this sound like you?
Waking up not feeling refreshed
Difficulty breathing through your nose
Snoring at night
Frequently anxious/stressed
Low energy during the day
Low emotional control
Hard time catching your breath after mild activity
Years of unconscious breathing habits have wrecked havoc on your system. But the body is very malleable. Given the right stimuli it can be prompted to change and improve.
The same is true for your breathing. Specifically your nasal breathing. Breathing is a simple yet profoundly complex topic. There are hundreds of different techniques and methods for breathwork.
Reality is this though - the simple act of learning to breathe through your nose consistently will change your life more than any profound technique.
The best answer is usually the simplest one.
